Internet.. why the internet is so interesting? Hurm...
Have you ever wonder why some person can sit in front of the PC or laptop
surfing...? Don't they bored? What are they do with the internet...??? So many
questions can we ask.. but for them, those who like to surf, they have their own
reasons...
What is the internet?
Internet is the worldwide, publicly accessible network of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP). It is a "network of networks" that consists of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government networks, which together carry various information and services, such as electronic mail, online chat, file transfer, and the interlinked Web pages and other documents of the World Wide Web.
Terminology: Internet vs. Web
The Internet and the World Wide Web are not synonymous: the Internet is a collection of interconnected computer networks, linked by copper wires, fiber-optic cables, wireless
connections, etc.; the Web is a collection of interconnected documents and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs. The World Wide Web is accessible via the Internet, as are many other services including e-mail, file sharing, and others described below.
The best way to define and distinguish between these terms is with reference to the Internet protocol suite. This collection of standards and protocols is organized into layers such that each layer provides the foundation and the services required by the layer above. In this conception, the term Internet refers to computers and networks that communicate using IP (Internet protocol) and TCP (transfer control protocol). Once this networking structure is established, then other protocols can run “on top.” These other protocols are sometimes called services or applications. Hypertext transfer protocol, or HTTP, is the application layer protocol that links and provides access to the files, documents and other resources of the World Wide Web.
What can we do with the Internet?
From my point of view internet is the most valuable
technology. Why? Because it's the cheapest and fastest way to find information.
Just type the keyword and in a second hundreds of hits found. You can easily
find it, manage it and copy it. But beware some of the contents are copyright
protected. So manage it well or you will sued by them.
Actually I read and send email, check my Friendster and
find info from the community or portal web. If there are any problems, I just
post it to the forum and we will discuss it till the problem is solved. I have
learned a lots from the internet, from the computer technology (software,
hardware, networking) till the life skills.
Don't waste your time checking email and friendster for a
long time, try to make the usage of the internet is valuable and beneficial. The
most important is be a smart user. If you have any problem, just ask, maybe they
can help you.
